Nursery care scheme to end Empty Nursery care scheme to end

A scheme offering free nursery care to Guernsey's health workers is to end in August, the health and social services department has announced.
A health department spokesman said significant budget cuts had to be made and this would save £165,000 a year.
The move would affect 23 staff who use facilities at First Steps Nursery.
Barry Brehaut, Deputy Minister for the Health and Social Services, told BBC Guernsey subsidised care was a luxury the States could not afford.
Deputy Brehaut said: "It is an expensive subsidy.
"It's not that well targeted because it touches so few people and also if you plot the course of how the service has been accessed recently there's a drop of provision.
"Part of the £165,000 is keeping places open for members because nurseries can't run on the basis that we may get a health and social services staff member in." (from BBC)

After preaching for businesses to run free nursery care the states drop theirs...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe - but we the taxpayer pay for the subsidies given to States Workers - is that fair on the taxpayer???? to pay for something that you are unable to access yourself - seems a bit steep to me!
