‘Blunders’ may have risked pollution
The incinerator under construction looks out over the Ramsar site Picture: PETER MOURANT (00877558)
A PROTECTED area of coastline could have been exposed to pollution because of a series of blunders in the planning process of the new incinerator, according to a damning new report.
A year-long review by the Environment Scrutiny panel has concluded that the environmental impact of the new energy-from-waste plant at La Collette was not properly investigated.
The review found that parts of the planning process ‘failed to comply with relevant standards’ and that monitoring and reporting of potential pollution risks during the construction appeared to be ‘weak’ and ‘lacking co-ordination’.
And it warned that Jersey may now have breached its obligations under the Ramsar Convention, which protects the area of sea adjacent to the incinerator(from JEP)
Hope our Guernsey new incinerator has the necessary standards....
Re: ‘Blunders’ may have risked pollution
There are two investigations by police into toxic leakage and another two they are trying to repair. This is what happens when you mix heavy metals from the chimney with the ash.
Italy is refusing to purchase Jersey crab from the area, and Save our Shore line group are seriously upset by a planning department who give lip service and then just carry on as normal.
You do not need to be a genius to work out that if you dump at a place that is porous, and the sea comes in and out every day that there will be contamination.
Boatyboy.
