Rise in unemployment figures
Latest statistics show 506 people were unemployed in Guernsey last month.
That's up 83 on December, and almost 100 on the same time last year.
Social Security says the increase is partly because of a new way in which the figures are calculated.

Re: Rise in unemployment figures
Single mothers with children over the age of 12 have been added to the figures, hence a lot of the increase.

Re: Rise in unemployment figures
out of these 508 unemployed how many off them could 'earn' there dole money? as in les bourgs hospice needs help to be built so why can they use unemployed people and those on community service to help build it, there must be some skilled staff in the mix who are perhaps able to offer management skills or labouring. Failing that stop issuing nine month housing licenses and make them work for it, opps sorry forgot the wages wouldn't be enough
