Guernsey Firms urged to take on unemployed
Companies are being urged to join a scheme which pays cash to take on long-term unemployed people in Guernsey.
Only two people have been helped by the scheme which the Social Security Department began in November 2009.
It offers up to £2,500 to any business willing to take on people who have been out of work for at least six months.
The amount of money, which increases the older the employee is, is paid over a six-month period and includes a £500 training grant.
'Wrong role'
Neil Stevenson, manager of benefits at the department, said: "It's a case of matching the right person.
"The worst thing we could possibly do is identify a role which is the wrong role and a person ends up back in unemployment.
"So we are trying to make a bespoke fit between a suitable company and a suitable recruit and that's why there are not vast numbers at the present time." (from BBC)
