Retail sales in Jersey down 2% compared with last year Empty Retail sales in Jersey down 2% compared with last year

People in Jersey bought fewer items this winter compared with the same time in 2008, official figures have shown.
The Jersey Retail Sales figures for October, November and December last year said the volume of sales in island shops were down 2% overall.
But islanders have been buying more to eat, with food sales up 3% in the final three months of 2009, compared with the same time the previous year.
However, the amount of non-food items sold in that time was 6% less.
It is the sixth consecutive quarter that has seen a decline in non-food sales, such as clothes and shoes and household goods.
But while islanders have been buying fewer items, the amount they spent in supermarkets and shops was about the same.
Throughout 2009, people in Jersey spent £700m on retail sales, excluding cars. (from BBC)

I would think there is very few shops in the Islands who can boast of increased sales...
