WHAT is your favourite Jersey landmark?
Big Ben has been voted Britain’s best-loved landmark in a recent survey. Beautiful Britain magazine asked 5,000 readers what building or natural beauty spot they loved best, and the famous clock tower came out top, narrowly beating the white cliffs of Dover and Stonehenge.
But what are Islanders’ most popular landmarks? We asked prominent Islanders who work in construction, who work to preserve historic buildings or who are environmentalists. Their choices were as follows:
• Waterfront Enterprise Board managing director Stephen Izatt: Icho and Seymour Towers.
• National Trust for Jersey president Mike Stentiford: La Caumine a Marie Best, also known as Le Don Hilton, in St Ouen’s Bay.
• Simon Crowcroft, the Constable of St Helier: Elizabeth Castle.
• Jersey Heritage director Jon Carter: Hamptonne, in St Lawrence.
• Save Jersey’s Heritage Marcus Binney: Nicolle Tower in St Clement.(from JEP)
What’s your favourite Jersey landmark?
Could it be one of these or is there something else someone hasn’t mentioned?
