Preparing for Guernsey's Liberation Day 2010 cavalcade
Every five years since the 1970s the cavalcade has been a central part of Guernsey's Liberation Day celebrations. 2010 is no exception and many groups are getting involved by building floats including the Guernsey Youth Theatre. Steve Hamon said: "We've never taken part in the cavalcade before and we thought it would be something good to take part in." A month before the parade the group had not yet started work on their float but they were confident it would be done. The theatre group have been working with Josh Gabriel, who has worked on floats for the Battle of Flowers in the past, on the design of the float. Steve explained: "We are going to use our logo as the main core of the float and design that in eras of the past right back to the 1940s and back up to present day." The float will be 35ft long and as well as a reflection of remembrance Josh said it will: "Generally promote what we [Guernsey Youth Theatre] do here." Steve said he hoped to involve as many of the groups members and "work shoppers" as possible. He added that Liberation Day is "an important part of Guernsey life and it's good to celebrate it and acknowledge it". (from BBC) |
Re: Preparing for Guernsey's Liberation Day 2010 cavalcade
It is going to be the biggest event of the year,Yet again St Peter Port will be over run with folks celebrating those years.
it is a day when we spend in town and the Rubbish from this event will be huge i hope the town will be kept clean and folks will enjoy the place.
I will be going to the town church service and giving thanks to all those who were here in those war years and to those who were sent away i give thanks for their return.
For me this service is a very moving time and the start of the celebrations
