Jersey introduces environmental car tax
Jersey residents who register a vehicle on the island will have to pay an environmental tax from September.
The Vehicle Emissions Duty will be based on the carbon dioxide emissions of each vehicle.
Revenue raised from the scheme will then be used to pay for environmental initiatives on the island.
The move follows a public consultation last year which asked residents for their views on how environmental schemes should be funded.
However, vehicles over 25 years old and those adapted for a disability will not have to pay the duty.
Cars registered by people moving to the island will also be exempt.
However, any owners of unregistered vehicles currently in Jersey will still need to pay the tax if they register after September. (from BBC)
Another way to claw back states overspend...

Quote "However, vehicles over 25 years old and those adapted for a disability will not have to pay the duty." Unquote.
This is ridiculous !
Firstly, the older the vehicle, the more pollution it creates. This will encourage more people to run older cars. thereby creating even more pollution.
Secondly, Cars adapted for a disability are not the only vehcles used by the disabled. Most disabled drive , or are driven, in standard vehicles.

Re: Jersey introduces environmental car tax
Is there anything stopping an able bodied person buying a car adapted for a disability?

Re: Jersey introduces environmental car tax
Probably not. However adapted vehicles are usually a lot more expensive, so there would be no financial advantage to do so.
