Prison staff in smuggling ring?
Prison Governor Bill Millar
SPECIALIST metal detecting equipment has been brought in at La Moye prison amid fears that corrupt staff could be smuggling in mobile phones for prisoners.
Prison Governor Bill Millar fears that there are so many mobile phones in the prison that he cannot rule out staff bringing them in.
To make matters worse, criminals behind bars have become so adept at hiding the phones that a ‘BOSS chair’, worth thousands of pounds, has been brought in.
Prisoners suspected of concealing the phones internally now have to sit in the chair – a specialist piece of equipment used widely in UK prisons – which detects whether criminals are hiding a foreign body. The prisoner can then hand the phone over or can be put in segregation until the phone is recovered naturally (from JEP)
Cant have a high regard for his staff, if he thinks that they are capable of being corrupt..
Re: Prison staff in smuggling ring?
I doubt whether there's a prison in the world where the staff aren't corrupt.
Quite how Guernsey prison has never sussed out how various things get in there is beyond me.

Must be careful and state that not all staff are corrupt but like all sectors of society there are some who are for many different reasons. Also consider the financial benefits to a prison officer who can smuggle drugs and phones into a prison, they can probably double their salary, which is a huge incentive.
