Alderney: Facebook fans pick brochure winner
Fans of Visit Alderney on Facebook have helped choose the photograph that will appear on the front cover of the 2011 Alderney brochure.
Visitors to the island also helped select the winner.
A photo album containing the shortlisted images was added to the Visit Alderney page on the internet site and the final stage of judging was taken to the public vote. Fans of Visit Alderney were asked to 'Like' the cover that they felt best represented Alderney and would most like to be the final winner, whilst an online survey was emailed to the Alderney brochure request mailing list of 14,000. The final judging then ran over the course of a week.
The winning photograph was up against four other shortlisted images. Of the 420 people who voted, the winning image received 29% of the votes. The winner, Helene Matthews, who entered a photograph of Fort Raz and the causeway, will have her image displayed on the front cover of the 2011 Official Alderney Brochure.
Joanna Parmentier, Marketing Manager for VisitAlderney said: "It was a very close competition; of the 420 people who voted, the winning photo received 121 votes, and was closely followed by the image of Braye Beach taken by Neil Howard which received 104 votes. In third place, with just one vote less, was the sunset photo of Alderney's breakwater taken by Beth Eggleston and received 103 votes."
As the final result was so close, orgainsers have decided to use the second and third place images on the cover of the Alderney Map and Leaflets.
A total of 90 photographs were entered into the competition, which ran from the June until October.
