Guernsey allows road salting during winter months
States Works has been given permission to salt some Guernsey roads for the first time this winter, should temperatures drop below freezing.
Previously traditional salt has not been used because of concerns for the island's water supply.
A replacement for traditional salt has been approved for use by the States and is due to arrive in the island next week.
Night-time temperatures are expected to fall to 1C by Sunday.
The new product is not expected to contaminate water supplies (from BBC)
