230th Anniversary of the Battle of Jersey
As part of the 230th Anniversary of the Battle of Jersey, on Saturday 8th January 2011 the 1781 Jersey Militia will be saluting the Jersey Militia and the fallen of the 83rd Regiment of Foot Grenadiers who fell at La Rocque on 6th January 1781. This will take place at the Memorial to the Grenadiers in the Churchyard of Grouville Parish Church. The Parish Rector, the Revd. Mike Lange-Smith, will give a short blessing and the Constable of Grouville will be in attendance. The Honorary Police will close the road for a few minutes either side of 11.00 am for one minute’s silence followed by 3 volleys of musket fire. Afterwards the Militia will make their way to the Town Hall and Royal Square to continue the celebration.
