Bailiff berates media
Jersey's Bailiff has controversially used his Liberation Day speech to berate the national and international media for its coverage of the child abuse inquiry.
Sir Philip told thousands of people packed in and around Liberation Square that once a media bandwagon starts rolling it is difficult to distinguish truth from fiction.
He said Liberation Day 'was as good a time as any to shake ourselves free of the misinformation to which the child abuse enquiry has given rise'.
The child abuse enquiry leapt into the national headlines when a small fragment of a child's skull was unearthed at Haut de la Garenne. Sir Philip said that led to a frenzy of righteous indignation and wild speculation.
Sir Philip went on to say that the unjustified and remoresless denigration of Jersey and her people that was the real scandal.
But Sir Philip's remarks were not welcomed by everyone, some saying the child abuse enquiry had nothing to do with Liberation Day(from Ci Onlie)
Just an excuse to try to hide the States cock-up over the whole affair...

Re: Bailiff berates media
I'd love to know whether the Bailiff's being 'kept in the loop' regarding the progress of the investigation. If he is then he would've known that the authorities were keeping the truth, that the likelihood the 'bone fragment' wasn't even bone, which makes his speech even more disgusting and hypocritical.
In his 'defense' there's a very good chance that he isn't being kept in the loop as he was in positions of responsibility during the period in question over the alleged 'cover-up'. And his actions over the Roger Holland saga do not paint him in a good light at all.
Personally from what I've heard, and obviously I can only go by what's been reported to the media, it sounds like there may have been some abuse, but statistically not out of the norm for the UK at the time. Any cover-up appears to be the laziness and ineptitude of the Police of the day. I would suggest that there will be, maybe, 2 or 3charges brought against individuals for abuse, but none for any type of cover-up, whether there is any convictions will be down to the evidence, and thus far it appears to be peoples words only, which will be hard to convict on.
