Jersey Library plans to give away books
Jersey Library will be taking part in an initiative that will see 20,000 people give out one million free books.
It all starts on World Book Night on Saturday when the people giving books will meet at the library.
The books have been chosen from a list of 25 titles and will be given to people who may be reluctant readers.
Then from Monday Jersey Library staff will visit residential homes and shelters in Jersey to hand out books and read excerpts to residents.
Librarian Victoria Morel said: "World Book Night is a really exciting initiative which we are privileged to be part of.
"Reading opens up new worlds and broadens our horizons, allowing us to learn about and understand other times, other cultures.
"The promotion of books and their value is our passion and World Book Night allows us to spread the joy of reading to those with limited access to our library."Agent ZigZag Jersey Library will be giving away books for World Book Night
The Jersey librarians will be giving away copies of Ben McIntyre's Agent ZigZag, a book partly set in the island.
Book giver and library assistant Amy Pitman said: "It tells the true story of double agent Eddie Chapman's exploits during World War II, many of which take place in Jersey.
"Ben McIntyre captures the charm of his protagonist and this, combined with the thrilling true story, make for a truly addictive reading experience."
