The first stage of netting work to catch falling rocks in Guernsey has been completed.
The risk of rock falls at La Valette has now been sufficiently reduced to allow some weekend access.
Pedestrians and vehicles will be able to access the bathing pools, aquarium and military museum when contractors are off site.
The road will be open from 1400 GMT on Saturdays until 0600 GMT on Mondays until the works have been completed.
The States of Guernsey Environment said the road would be closed again on Monday mornings to allow contractors to continue the rock pinning works and install additional safety fences.
"This is a relatively early stage but works on the rock catch netting have progressed well so far," Environment Minister Peter Sirett said.
"This is a popular area for visitors to the bathing pools and cliffs and we're pleased that it's been possible to open the road over the weekend, particularly given the forecast for fine weather."
The minister said although the risk of rocks falling from the cliff face had been greatly reduced, pedestrians and drivers were being advised "not to linger in the area of the works".
It is hoped the road will reopen fully in April. (from BBC)
