Jersey Aids charity could close services after cuts Empty Jersey Aids charity could close services after cuts

A Jersey charity which supports people with Aids and HIV could close some of its services due to budget cuts.
Acet Jersey said it could be forced to withdraw its HIV prevention programmes and care services unless it found the extra money it needs.
The charity said that if it was not able to make up the shortfall it may have to make two full-time members of staff redundant at the end of May.
Acet said HIV and other viruses posed a significant threat to public health.
They said that in Jersey more people were diagnosed every year.
Acet gives confidential advice and financial support to those with HIV and their families.
It is this service along with its education and prevention services that are under threat.
Chairman of the board of trustees Bruce Willing said: "If Acet is to continue to offer care and support to those living with the illness, as well as to educate islanders, particularly young people, about the potential risks and behaviours that may increase their chances of contracting blood related illnesses, we have to find a source of new funding urgently."
He said the minister for treasury and resources had provided Acet with a £38,000 grant from the Drug Confiscation Fund.
But he added this was not enough on its own to enable the charity to survive. (from JEP)
