Abandoned vehicles a fire hazard, says Salerie neighbour
AFTER watching his car come close to going up in flames at Salerie Corner, Mike Cluer wants something done about vehicles which are abandoned there.
The 65-year-old, who has lived opposite the car park with his wife, Chris, for three years, has been getting increasingly concerned with the way the car park is being abused.
He has written to the Environment Department and the police for more than a year about the problem, but he said that they could not deal with it.
Senior parish constable Barry Cash said they were aware of the problem, and he had met Environment’s traffic department last week to work out a strategy for the area (from GEP)
It seems that the Island is going "backwards" in parking etc, the amount of cars, boats etc at Bulwer Avenue for sale and Southside have been their for days, seems the traffic wardens are spending most time in town, even at the parking zone at the top of my road a damaged Ford Ka has been their for weeks...

This is a problem that needs to be 'nipped in the bud' before it becomes a real issue.
Is this indicitive of 'visitors/workers' to our shores who are here for a short time and then disappear leaving their old cars as rubbish?
What do you think?

It continues to baffle me that the States do not pass necessary legislation to enable the Police and the Constables to take direct action to deal with this problem.
