A few suggestions to help get the best out of island life.
Entertainment


The Japanese restaurant, Bento, has joined up with bar Rojo to raise money for the Japan Tsunami Appeal.
The two businesses are fundraising in association with the British Red Cross and hope to raise funds to help the Japanese Red Cross in the relief effort.
There will be a night of karaoke, food and music from 1800 to 2000 BST on Saturday 2 April at Rojo.
Tickets are £10 each and there are 50 available and Bento has agreed to present a Sushi meal for everyone who goes free of charge so that all the ticket money goes straight to the appeal.

  • Blood Brothers returns to the Jersey Arts Centre on Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April.
  • The Jersey Film Society is showing the film: Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country on Monday 4 April at 2000 BST. Certificate: 12A (Tickets £5 adults (£3 students) only available on the door)
  • St George's Preparatory School presents Hoodwinked by Margaret Carpenter at the Arts Centre from Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 April at 1900 BST. It is a modern take on the well known tale of Robin Hood. (Tickets: £5)

Music


A Channel Islands Music Council Tour presents the London Community Gospel Choir at St James on Thursday 7 April at 2000 BST.
This highly sought-after group promises concerts that are full of songs and spirituals to soothe the mind, heal the spirit and uplift the soul.
The evening will include favourites from Oh Happy Day to Sister Act, Amazing Grace and Hallelujah.

  • Jersey Jazz 2011 runs from 1 to 4 April at four different venues around the island. Six jazz bands will be performing live over the four day event. There are single event tickets as well as package passes.
  • The Jersey Green Room Club presents The King and I at the Jersey Opera house from Thursday 7 to Sunday 17 April. (Tickets: Adults £17, Concessions £15)
  • The Drift have a Rihanna tribute act by Perusi called Good Girl Gone Bad on Friday 8 April at 2100 BST for over 18s only. (Free entry)
  • Also at the Drift this time on Thursday 14 April it is The Doors Alive who are claimed to be the most exciting Doors tribute in the world. It starts at 2100 BST and is also free entry.

Outdoors


The Vintage Fair takes place at St Aubin on Saturday 2 April from 1000 to 1800 BST.
There will be stalls selling collectable items and unique gifts from the 1900s to the 1980s.
Art Deco, Art Nouveau, the Arts & Craft Movement, studio ceramics, prints, books, vintage French linen & clothing, country furniture, cushions, fabric and throws, jewellery, copper, silver, glass ware, post cards and ephemera, a treasure trove of charming vintage pieces which will fit into any contemporary interior.

  • Motor Sprint takes place on Saturday 2 April from 1200 to 1700 BST on the Five Mile Road. Competitors on bikes, racing cars, modified production cars, rally cars and karts, race against the clock on the 1/4 mile sprint. Enthusiasts can watch the event from the nearby dunes.
  • There is a Catch of the Day cookery course at Longueville Manor on Saturday 2 April from 0930 - 1500 BST. Executive Head Chef Andrew Baird will show people how to sex a crab and share his knowledge about some lobsters being left handed. (£75 tickets include a three course lunch and wine with each course)
  • Every Sunday until September the Jersey Kart and Motor Club will be racing on the North Coast Track at Sorel Point in St John. (Free entry)

Art and Culture


The Uneek2you exhibition takes place at the Harbour Gallery from Thursday 31 March to Monday 11 April.
The exhibition includes a selection of images ranging from classic tourism posters to unique card designs and from iconic Jersey landscapes to wildlife photography.
They are displayed in various different formats - posters, cards, canvases and banners as well as photobooks and calendars.
Every item bought during the exhibition helps support local artists, photographers and design students and raises money for charities such as Durrell and Jersey Heritage. (Free entry)

  • There is a Hidden Treasures - Modern Masters Exhibition at the Jersey Museum from 2 April until 31 December. The exhibition comprises of the private collections of local art collectors and includes paintings, drawings and sculptures by twentieth century artistic giants such as Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Roy Lichtenstein and Henry Moore.
  • Spring Specials - half of Jersey's restaurants are taking part in the culinary event - showing off the best of the seasons produce in special menus. It runs until 14 April.
  • The Self Portrait exhibition continues at the Berni Gallery at the Arts Centre until Saturday 16 April. Six Jersey artists came together to explore their identities as artists using the Berni Gallery as inspiration. They had a time constraint of less than 36 hours. The artists are: Matt Falle, Lisa MacDonald, Kevin Pallot, Gabrielle Radiguet, Alison Richards and Karen Le Roy Harris.
