Prescription of depression drugs goes up by a third in four years
PRESCRIPTIONS for anti-depressant drugs have risen by a third in the last four years.
In 2010, approximately 75,000 prescriptions for them were dispensed.
Social Security prescribing adviser Geraldine O’Riordan said there were many reasons why the use of anti-depressant medicines had increased – there was an increased awareness that the condition was treatable and the public had a greater awareness of the illness.
But she said that anti-depressants could also be used for illnesses other than clinical depression. (from GEP)
Same story in the Uk... pressures of life ...

thats right - anti depressant drugs are indeed not always used for depression - they are used to treat anxiety disorders as well and social phobias for example. But this is not just the case with just these sorts of drugs but all - they all are administered for different illnesses/purposes.
