Alderney’s Gambling Control Commission has launched an investigation after Full Tilt Poker was indicted on federal charges in America.
US authorities accused the owners of the Alderney-registered business, along with another two of the world’s biggest poker websites, of continuing to welcome American customers despite the 2006 introduction of a US law designed to stop online gaming.
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was brought in to halt money transfers to such internet sites.
Federal prosecutors in New York are seeking at least $3bn. (£1.8bn.) in money laundering penalties. If convicted, the 11 men named in the indictment – from Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars and Absolute Poker – face possible prison time and huge fines.
Full Tilt Poker denied any wrongdoing and told the BBC it was ‘saddened’ by the charges.(thisisguernsey)
