Two referral routes to physio – only one is free
THE way patients can be referred for physiotherapy is potentially confusing, according to a British Medical Association spokesman.
Dr Brian Parkin (pictured) said there had been concern for some time that two types of referral procedure could see some patients pay for physiotherapy while others got it free.
An independent report published yesterday said that direct patient referrals from GPs to the Guernsey Physiotherapy Group without the input of consultants at the Medical Specialist Group should be considered.
At the moment, if a patient needing physiotherapy was referred by a GP and kept in the primary care sector, the treatment was charged for.
But if that patient was referred by a GP to an MSG consultant, who then referred them on to the GPG, they would receive the treatment free of charge.
(from GEP)
I have to admit I could never understand why you get free treatment via the specialist, but not from the GP
Re: Two referral routes to physio – only one is free
when physio is suggested by the gp it is chargeable as i found out to the cost to my bank balance..no suggestion that they would send you to specialist to be referred though..doctors in guernsey are just a money making machine....

Yes you are correct .i use the physio many times for months .when i injured my knee i had to pay for some treatment as it was a emergency .then once i had been to the specialist i went up to the physio at St Martins ,this was free until i was signed off from the specialist .
the cost was huge, and lucky i pay a insurance so they paid it for me ,but they only pay for a certain amount of treatment so my insurance ran out for my free docs visits earlier that year.

State funded health schemes put your body and your life entirely under control of the State and their political whims. Paid for treatment is under your own control. Neither extreme is ideal and I feel that the Guernsey system of subsidised heath care is about as near to the ideal that you will get. I wish we had a similar system in the UK, instead of the dictatorial totally State controlled system we have.
