National Gallery Folly
Our unelected Bailiff, while talking about a 'national gallery' for Jersey, says "He believes the money for the building can easily be found...". Great, but he doesn't say where, and while the money for the building might (I disagree) be able to be found, what is the cost of the art to exhibit? what will the insurance and other running cost be?
In a few years time I'm sure it'll be the Bailiff at the fore for funding for some piece of art that the gallery simple 'must' secure for the island.
Is there not a gallery in the museum?
This National Gallery idea is another endless money pit, but worse still is the fact that it'll be enjoyed by a tiny minority of predominantly well-to-do folk with the option to fund their own entertainment.

Come on since when did any museum make any money?I think a Gallery with all the Island pictures in, is a good place of learning for our younger generation..Troy McClure wrote:

I'm well aware that few museums make money, but 'losing' or spending huge sums of money on something that most of the younger generation will only see when dragged there on a school trip, when there are so many people at the poorer end of society struggling seems very insensitive. Especially on something that appeals to the very opposite end of society.
That's not to say that the poor don't like art, but it's going to be Mourant and Ogier that hold drinks parties there not the PoSH roads dept.
