Approval has been given by the States of Guernsey for two "You are here" signs to be erected in St Peter Port.

The Environment Department approved the plans for the boards, which will feature maps alongside historical information and pictures.

The signs were intended to assist tourists by providing information about the town's features and landmarks.

Dennis Le Moignan, Junior Constable for St Peter Port, said he was "absolutely delighted".

He added: "We're now looking forward to getting the signs made and put in place."

The first sign, a double-sided board, will be situated at the Weighbridge, and will feature maps of the town and the harbour.

The second board will be single-sided, and will be placed in the Market Square.
