Three St Peter Port businesses have been affected after a mains water pipe burst in the street above.

Village East restaurant, Bathroom Emporium and Blockbuster temporarily closed their doors to customers.

About 20 properties in Le Pollet and North Plantation in the town also lost mains water for a time on Monday.

Andrew Redhead, director of water services at Guernsey Water, apologised and said repairs would be made over the next few days.

Ryan Francis, from Blockbuster, said: "When we came in the back room was basically flooded, so all the stock in the back got ruined and it's coming through the wall as well.

"But we came off pretty lightly compared to Village East and the Bathroom Emporium, which had quite a few inches of water."

The businesses have since reopened and loss adjusters have visited the premises to assess the damage.
