Church Square users angry at Environment’s car-free plan
ISLANDERS have reacted angrily to proposals that could see Church Square closed to cars.
The idea is one of the options in the road transport strategy report and has the backing of Environment.
But Josephine Campling, 62, who was using a temporary disabled sticker in order to park to pick up a prescription, was outraged at the suggestion. She often uses half-hour parking spaces.
‘How are they going to get coffins to the church or brides to their wedding?’ she demanded.
Taxi driver Peter Kenney was worried about the impact such a move could have on his profession and the square’s rank.

I hate the idea that it could be another alfresco area .. more bloody space to a big company .. this is wrong .i get sick of falling over tables and chairs on the foot spaces now .and they made many bring in the a boards and remove floral displays
this stinks more money into the law officers pockets .as they are the ones who will benefit from an alfresco license.
This area is a good place to pick up and drop off passengers . it should not be closed off.
Is this to suit the new tenants of le leviers ? or the new creasy perhaps .is there is something fishy going on here .
