More needs to be done to get people to sign up for the electoral roll, a Guernsey deputy has said.

Deputy John Gollop said a "more aggressive" advertising campaign in the island's media needed to be carried out to boost numbers.

He said he was worried about the perceived lack of engagement in local politics, especially from young people.

Deputy Gollop said social media should be used more extensively to attract young islanders to sign up.

The Home Department has set itself a target of registering 35,000 electors before the end of February and currently has 25,500 islanders signed up.
(from BBC)

Sorry Mr Gollop but its daily plugged in the media at the moment, spending more will not get more on the roll....

A lot of states house tenants were encouraged to go onto the roll 8 years ago
this they did in good faith.. there has been so many of those who earn high wages shoved out into the private sector
i very much dont think they will sign up
had they been allowed to stay ..those on the lower end and those who were older at least housing would have an income from its tenants
Until these people start to trust local politician again they will not be signing up
Perhaps housing could put this with in the tenancy agreement we give you a states house ,you will need to vote the states in as well !

If you don't vote you have no right to complain about the actions of the elected.

And Kat you surely do not approve of high wage earners occupyiny subsidised housing do you ?

The rents for these would not be subsidised it would be a percentage of their earning
Remember those in the private sector will also have a rent rebate very soon.this mean that greedy landlord can shove rents up even higher and will get paid by the tax payer
So instead of the greedy landlord getting the subsidy rents the states will earn more in rents revenue them selves
This would work as long as there are enough homes for the poorer folks of the island .
Also remember who was in the front of bringing in the law to to change that the private sector will be on these rents ..
A landlord who is part of a company who owns many many homes with in the private sector ..

Are you saying that States tenants pay a rent in relation to their income ? If so, that's a novel idea, not a bad one though. Perhaps we should try that in the UK, might get rid of some of the multitude of expensive cars which are parked outside many Council houses.

Yes we do we pay a percentage on ALL earnings including any other allowances we get per a child to to look after a person.
If we go over a certain limit by a penny we are out into the private sector .
