Deputy Carol Steere minister calls for judicial review Empty Deputy Carol Steere minister calls for judicial review

Guernsey's outgoing education minister has called for a full judicial review into the events that led up to a review into education services.

Deputy Carol Steere made the comment in a statement to the States ahead of the election of her replacement.

She said: "A grooming campaign to deliver doubt and suggestion of huge failing [has been] conducted."

She blamed intense lobbying by the Guernsey Press, supported by past and present deputies, for "the whole saga".

Deputy Steere said: "The truth of this must be allowed to come out in the interest of the standing of this parliament and the public interest."

She claimed the six-month campaign had caused "a grave injustice" to be directed at the department's former chief officer Derek Neale.

Deputy Steere announced her resignation earlier this month after it was called for in the wake of the publication of the Mulkerrin Review.

It was critical of the political board of the Education Department and blamed failings in the education system for poor GCSE scores in two of the high schools.
