Guernsey's obesity figures described as 'fairly alarming'
Guernsey's latest obesity figures have been described as "fairly alarming" by the island's director of public health.
Dr Stephen Bridgman said 20% of Guernsey residents were now obese, double the number recorded locally in the 1970s and 1980s.
He said the figures were taken from research with the island's Chest and Heath Unit and also health surveys.
He added that work was underway to implement an obesity strategy approved by the States in 2009.
The strategy's 27 proposals were suggested by the Health and Social Services Department.
They included taking on new dieticians and working with businesses to promote healthy living.

dieticians are a waste of time as i know very well..its not how much you eat but what you eat..i sadly have a chocolate addiction and until i am ready to i wont give it up.i am once again trying to lose weight but it is a battle..maybe they should consider gastric bands on the states contract..of course we knew this would happen after smoking was demonised they had to find something else to beat the drum about ...

I'm sure part of the problem is the number of people who see their kitchens as a showroom and spend most of their meal times in a restaurant.

If only it were that simple.....try all the additives they are allowed to put in foods to bulk them out coupled with people who don't bother to read what they are eating.....IMO that would be nearer to the truth ...
