MACINTYRE; Martin Brian Martin-MacintyreMy experience of working in the construction industry, for many years along with my work for the AGCS and other trade unions, also in the private sector with Specsavers and having been a civil servant for 4½ years, I believe, gives me invaluable experience to represent you and the Castel parish constituents in the States of Deliberation.

If you give me your vote and I am elected to the States of Deliberation as a Deputy for the Castel, I promise to work hard on the following issues

Population – I am encouraged by the proposals for a new permit system and will be very interested in the item when it comes to the States in due course. Growth in population in Guernsey must be sustainable. At the same time, we cannot ignore the value of workers from abroad and their input to the economy.

Housing – The Corporate Housing Programme has been a success over the last few years and I believe we can build on the success of the Guernsey Housing Association by helping younger Guernsey people to take part in partial ownership of properties

Unemployment – Is at a 15 year high due to external forces. Some people are long term unemployed for reasons beyond their control. Actively engaging with unemployed people and giving employers incentives to utilise the skills some of our unemployed people could have many long term benefits as the average age of the population rises year-on-year.

Equal Opportunities – For all individuals and groups in society, such as employment, adequate housing, health care, education and training. Accessibility to goods and services for disabled people in most instances is very simple and cheap for businesses to develop. Give me a ring and I can put you in touch with the people who can advise the best way forward.

Paid Parking – I am not convinced that paid parking in Town (or anywhere else) will benefit the community as a whole. Only the wealthier members of our society will benefit from such a scheme and the less well off will have to use a public transport system which for some of us is just inadequate.

Dumping of Vehicles – As Cobo has become a “hotspot” for the dumping of vehicles over the last few years, blighting one of the Islands most beautiful sights. I propose that any untaxed vehicle, left unattended for 1 month and can be seen from the road, be removed and the vehicle owner be charged for removal and destruction of the vehicle.

I am not a populist, aiming for the popular vote. I am not going to send you a manifesto full of platitudes just to get your attention.

I do have some challenging ideas that may make people sit up and think. I may be wrong sometimes but I am always open to another persons’ point of view and willing to listen. That comes from my life experiences.
