Wine Dinners to enjoy ‘Italy’s Indigenous Varietals’
As part of Tassili’s year long wine dinner series, connoisseurs will be enjoying a taste of Italy this April.
Michael Palij, UK specialist master of wine and a member of The Institute of Masters of Wine, will be introducing guests to six of Italy’s indigenous grape varieties, not often seen outside the country, at the event on Thursday 26th April. The wines will be accompanied by a bespoke six-course menu, which has been developed by executive head chef of Tassili, Richard Allen,
Tassili at Grand Jersey is set to host its most comprehensive series of wine dinners to date throughout 2012. Gastronomes will be treated to a diverse range of wines presented over the course of 11 events, nine of which remain, with each evening focusing specifically on a region or type of wine.
‘The wine dinners are my favourite events of the year,’ said Mr Corrigan, sommelier at Tassili. ‘We held a series of wine dinners last year and they all stimulated great debates, from both experienced and inexperienced wine connoisseurs. This year the dinners will showcase completely different wines, and will be posing questions that task even the most experienced sommeliers – what wine best accompanies truffles? Are Sauvignon Blanc and asparagus a match made in heaven? I am looking forward to hearing what the diners think!’
Mr Corrigan has won a significant number of accolades since he began his career. These accolades include being a finalist in the 1997, 1998 and 1999 Ruinart Sommelier of the Year competition; winner of the 1998 Regional Final of the Ruinart Trophy; second in the 1998 and 1999 Southern Sommelier of the Year competition; winner of the 2000 Southern Sommelier of the Year competition; finalist in the 1998 Waterford Crystal Trophy; winner of the 1999 Waterford Crystal Trophy; finalist in the 2000 Torres ‘Nosing Wines’ competition and fourth in the 2004 Wine International Food and Wine Pairing.
Mr Corrigan’s exciting wine lists have also led to him scooping the 1993 and 2000 ‘New World’ Wine List of the Year awards from Wine Magazine and being crowned winner of the 2000 Best Wine List in UK by Decanter Magazine and also winner of the Gosset Award in 2000. He has also received the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator in 1993 and 2004, Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator in 1995 and 2000 and the Grand Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator in 2003 and 2007.
The evening is priced at £85 per person, which includes wines and dinner. For more information or to book, please contact Grand Jersey’s reception team on 01534 722301 or email reception@grandjersey.com.
