Minister wants Jersey primary school children to use buses
Jersey's transport minister wants more children to use buses to get to school to ease traffic congestion.
Deputy Kevin Lewis said a concentration of schools in St Saviour and St Helier caused long rush hour tail-backs.
Three nearby schools will discuss road safety after two students were hurt in the Mont Millais area this week.
A 15-year-old boy from Hautlieu was hit by a car, and a few days later a motorcyclist from Victoria College was injured in a crash.
Deputy Lewis said he was waiting to find out what caused the accidents before taking action.
But lollipop ladies or men, a zebra crossing and a new lights system are some of the ideas being suggested.
The minister said there was a 20mph zone with flashing signs but the area was a notorious bottleneck.
And he said he wanted more people to use the bus.
He said: "We are working on a policy of getting primary school children on to buses so that will be possibly in the new bus contract which starts next year."
