Fraud Investigation Arrest
One person has been arrested in connection with the money defrauded from the States of Guernsey.
A small amount of the 2.6 million pounds lost has already been
recovered.
The Guernsey Police Commercial Fraud department has begun an
investigation into how the States were conned out of millions of pounds.
It is after the Treasury and Resources Department received a genuine
looking letter claiming to be from Lagan Construction advising that
their bank account number had changed - and the Department paid the
money to the fraudster instead.
As a result of the investigation an arrest has been made in the UK, and
Guernsey Police are working closely with their counterparts on the
mainland and with the Guernsey Border Agency to establish who is
responsible. «
