States Plans To Reduce Smoking
Smoking is still a big problem in Guernsey.
Health and Social Services say their tobacco Control Strategy is working
- however smoking is still a major cause of premature preventable death
in the Bailiwick.
The states want your help on tackling the problem, email your tips and
comments to gleroy@hssd.gov.gg ..
as anon smoker i think this plan is nothing short of dictatorship. i stopped after smoking for 44 years as a smoker b ecause i nearly died during an op when my lungs collapsed..i chose not to start again..like an alcoholic is with booze a smoker is with tobacco..no matter the cost of a packet a smoker will always find the cash to buy them so increasing cost will only make them short of money to buy food etc. education is the way forward..catch them when they are young and then we may find less smkers in guernsey..putting the age up to 18 to buy ciggies had no effect whatsoever so maybe taking shop owners to court for selling to underage kids would be a deterrent .
