Be Aware of 'The Silent Killer'
As the colder nights draw in, we are being asked to check our heating and lighting systems are well maintained.
It is part of Carbon Monoxide Awareness week starting today reminding islanders of 'the silent killer.'
The problem with the gas is it's colourless and odourless making it difficult to detect.
Warning signs can be if you have flu-like symptoms, headaches, tiredness which seems to disappear when you leave the house.

Re: Be Aware of 'The Silent Killer'
Surely, as this is a proven killer, the States of both Islands could legislate and make it compulsory for all homes, businesses etc that have gas installed to make it mandatory to have alarms installed? Seems rather simple to me!!

Re: Be Aware of 'The Silent Killer'
Much too simple. What is needed is a committee to investigate then report to the States, who will then get the report vetted by an UK consultant. The cost of this will be £250,000.The report will state that it would cost £100,000 to implement and supply the number of monitors required. So in these times of austerity it will decline any further action except to aggree to commission another report in 3 years time.
