Guernsey deputy wants double-decker buses like Jersey Empty Guernsey deputy wants double-decker buses like Jersey

A politician wants Guernsey to follow Jersey and reintroduce double-decker buses on some of the island's roads.

Deputy John Gollop said it could be part of a three-tier system offering different types of buses for different purposes in Guernsey.

The deputy, a regular bus user, said the novelty of the larger vehicles would make public transport more appealing to islanders.

CT Plus launched its new bus service in Jersey on Wednesday.

Guernsey had a double-decker bus service in the 1980s, but officials said there had not been sufficient demand to revive it.

CT Plus which also runs Guernsey's bus service, has previously said there were plans for a new mixed fleet of buses in 2014.

Deputy Gollop, who is also the States' disability champion, said double-decker buses would make it easier for some disabled passengers to travel because they offered more room on the lower deck for wheelchairs.

He said more could be done to promote public transport in Guernsey, but that the popularity of the car made it challenging.
