Abandoned cars Empty Abandoned cars

Post by GD Wed 09 Jul 2008, 8:24 pm

With abandoned cars causing high profile problems in Guernsey recently, the Home Department's hoping they can help out.

They've been looking into how these vehicles can be identified and moved more quickly and cheaply than under current laws.

The recent issues at Cobo and Clifton Lane highlighted the powerlessness of the Police over vehicles on private land - another problem the report tries to address. (from CIonline)

The trouble with a lot of abandoned cars, is they are from Uk/Foreign workers who have gone back home...

I had a problem with an dumped car in our church car parl
it was a terre la mend .we issued tickets but it was still not removed
in the end i had to fight for it to e taken away on the enviroment thing
the pokice helped eventully when we said it was a danger to folks,as it was outside some houses for oldies
but it took time
the police would not tell us who it belong to ,but we knew because of stuff left in the car .including pink tickets from the pollce
Al they needed to do was fing the owner and make his sign a paper for it to be removed
A lot of unwarranted work ..it would have been so simple ,but like everything in our island now data protection rules

If it was parked in a terre à l’amende, States Traffic will give you the owners details.

A work colleague of mine had a car dumped on his property for over a year when he phoned the police to get it moved they said they cannot give out personal details of the public , so he said well can i pay to have it taken away which they replied NO its not yours to dispose of. He replied but its on my land and i need to gain access to that part of the property to which they replied if you move it without the owners permission you could end up in court. So he said if you give me the persons name i can call him/her to ask if i can dispose of it at my cost to which they replied its data protection we cannot give you those details nor can the VDLA.

The law is an ass on this one.

As a point of note, a number of people have moved abandoned cars without the owners' permission. None have been taken to court.

best way is to not say anything ,but to put then out onto the public highway when no one is looking.
then it is the polices problem, they will have it moved as soon as possible
Just dont get caught or you will be done for lots of offences
