Hamster abandoned in bin bag Empty Hamster abandoned in bin bag

Guernsey's animal protection organisation say they have been shocked by the discovery of an animal left on the street in a tied-up plastic bag.

A hamster was abandoned in Church Square last Wednesday lunchtime.

Hobo, as it is now called, was saved by a cleaner in Church Square who decided to investigate what looked like a bag of rubbish put out for disposal.

Inside the bag was Hobo - in a small cage with no food or water.

The hamster is being cared for by the GSPCA until it can be found a new home. Welfare manager Lorna Prince says there's no excuse for what happened, describing it as "senseless" and "not acceptable".

If anyone has any information about how Hobo came to be abandoned the GSPCA would welcome a call.

Meanwhile Hobo is settling in, waiting for a permanent new home. As Hobo is a Syrian hamster he will have to live alone.
