Legal highs are now illegal
'Legal high' pills are now classed as illegal in Jersey.
Today (Friday) officers from the police drugs squad have been carrying out a comprehensive search of ‘Roll Up’ in New Street, St Helier.
This follows the seizure of several thousand pills on the premises in the days immediately preceding this year's Jersey Live event at which ‘Roll Up’ had a marketing and sales stall.
On Friday 31st October, Jersey police drugs squad carried out a search of the premises in New Street, St Helier.
The UK Department of Health’s Medicine and Health care products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) classes some herbal substances, such as those used in legal highs, as being 'medicinal products'. This makes it a criminal offence for the legal highs to be on the market.
The Jersey Medicines Law means its an offence for any person in the course of business to import medicinal products without a licence, and no such licences for the 'legal highs' were issued by Jersey’s Chief Pharmacist Mr Paul McCabe.
Susan Turnbull, Deputy Medical Officer of Health, told channelonline.tv; "This is a most welcome development, and a major step towards protecting the people of Jersey from these potentially harmful substances."
Any future sale or supply by any retail outlet of medicinal products containing any of the herbal substances constitutes a criminal offence. (from Channelonlne TV)
Lets hope that the Guernsey Authorities will do the same
