States’ drinks duty hikes ‘are most aggressive in the world’
ALCOHOL duty hikes in Guernsey have been more aggressive than anywhere else in the world, according to Randall’s Brewery.
Managing director Ian Rogers said the States tax increases were pushing up drinks prices more than breweries were.
‘Around 50% increase in duty in three years is pretty unheard of,’ he said.
‘By far the biggest percentage increase in the cost of beers, wines and spirits, and the main reason why these products have far outstripped inflation in the last three years, has been because of duty increases levied by the States of Guernsey.
‘When you consider that duty levels have increased in real terms by 50% over three years I doubt there is a country in the world that has had such an aggressive increase.’ (from thisisguernsey)
Cant say its cheap to got for a drink now, thats for sure...
