Jersey companies warned prepare for new redundancy law Empty Jersey companies warned prepare for new redundancy law

A Jersey law firm said there could be significant costs to employers who do not abide by new redundancy legislation coming into force in January.
The new law will mean those who are made redundant in the island will have more protection.
Legislation will require statutory redundancy payments.
Law firm partner, Helen Ruelle, said the States are to revisit the "collective consultation" part of the law in the new year.
Employers will also have to allow time off work for staff to find new jobs and be trained if needed.
The law will require employers to enter into consultation with a union or staff representative.
This is in addition to individual consultation which is already required by the Jersey Employment Tribunal. (from BBC)
