GCSEs: 8 years of decline
GCSE results have got worse locally over the last eight years.
But in the same period both Jersey and England’s have improved markedly.
The revelation puts increased pressure on Education to release more of the exam data it holds to show islanders how Guernsey schools really are performing.
The statistics are contained within a report that was compiled by Frontier Economics as part of work on a new skills strategy for Guernsey.
It states that GCSE performance has declined over the last eight years in absolute terms and relative to Jersey and, while the recent dip in performance can be attributed to the raising of the school age in 2009 to 16, it cannot explain the overall trend. (from GEP)
