The owner of toy and novelty gift chain Hawkin's Bazaar brand has gone into administration.

The Tobar Group employs 380 staff across a network of 65 stores and also sells online and over the phone.

"In common with many retailers the group has experienced exceptionally challenging trading conditions of late," said Peter Saville of joint administrators Zolfo Cooper.

The administrators said they would be working to try and protect jobs.

Hawkin's Bazaar customers owning gift vouchers may still exchange these for goods.

The company is not publicly listed but has a reported turnover of about £60m. (from BBC)

Not surprised about Clinton Cards (or any other card retailer for that matter) I don't send many Christmas Cards mainly because they now cost the price of a small gift! and add the postage to that and they have become a useless, overpriced luxury!
