Passengers angry as HD axes direct services
DIRECT sailings to St Malo with HD Ferries have been cancelled because of rising fuel costs, passengers claimed yesterday.
A number of travellers contacted the Guernsey Press yesterday shocked at the operator’s sudden decision to remove direct services from Guernsey to St Malo from 1 September.
Passengers booked on sailings after that date have been contacted by the company to inform them of the cancellations.
The move follows a number of recent cancellations of sailings by the company.
One passenger affected told the Guernsey Press: ‘The way HD Ferries drops sailings when it suits them just damages passenger confidence in their ability to operate a scheduled service. It’s like they’ve got a death wish or something.’
HD Ferries was unavailable for comment. (from thisisguernsey)

Re: Passengers angry as HD axes direct services
Now this !
Travel plans for hundreds of islanders have been thrown into chaos
after HD Ferries announced it is suspending its services from this
weekend.
The company is pulling out of routes from Jersey and Guernsey
to St Malo over the Winter due to the cost of fuel and the economic
downturn making its operations unviable.
At the moment there's no guarantee that crossings will resume
next year - the company says that depends on the state of the economy.
And that Carling bloke was on the radio tonight saying in his opinion they will not be back next year.

Re: Passengers angry as HD axes direct services
One thing i must say is we do need another carrier because Condor is
way overpriced i hope the states look look for another operator so
Condor does not have a monopoly again for this will make the prices
even higher if that is possible.

Re: Passengers angry as HD axes direct services
HD is complaining about profitability. Is there anyone that has information about the economics of the route i.e. how much was HD losing on the route? How does it look for Condor, are they making a profit?

Re: Passengers angry as HD axes direct services
You will be lucky to get that info... Condor would not want to show if they are making a profit just how much
It they do make a profit and show it to be too much then, Joe public would be moaning...
