Unreasonable legal fees
There's been a call in Jersey for the appointment of an ombudsman to govern charges made by law firms.
Legal costs expert Jim Diamond says that gaps in the rules mean law firm can't be forced by the Jersey Law Society to pay money back when they overcharge.
And he says the Jersey system takes far too long to determine the most basic of disputes over fees.
Mr Diamond believes there's no client protection in the law from unreasonable or excessive fees. He says the Jersey Law Society can't impose adjudications or sanctions. (from CIonline)
