Sark publication reveals Barclays’ building spend
THE extent of Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay’s multi-million-pound investment in Sark has been revealed.
The construction industry has received close to £4m. in business over the past 16 months while in excess of £1.8m. has been earned in wages from Sark Development Ltd projects.
There has also been support for new business, with properties let on a ‘turnkey basis’ with all the costs of building refurbishment and furnishings being met by Sark Developments Ltd - a total investment of £1.4m. by the company.
The figures are revealed in the latest edition of Sark News, a publication released with the approval of the Brecqhou owners.
‘The past year has seen many millions of pounds invested into the economy of Sark by Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay,’ states the publication. (thisisguernsey)

Re: Sark publication reveals Barclays’ building spend
What is the relevance of who actually owns the Sark news ?
What is relevant is the huge amount of money they have invested in sark , and the amount of people they employ (mostly locals) and new businesses they have set up for the locals with full employment in the island. So this year there will be no need for the locals who have no jobs in the winter months to travel afar to find jobs like cutting down trees for Christmas and picking crops.
This can only be good for the ordinary working person perhaps not for the idle rich with fingers in all sorts of pies who can afford to sit back and watch the island deteriorate.

Digger, May I suggest that you speak with a member of Sarks community who has not sold out their soul. I think you will find that there is a small pocket of resistance towards the totalitarianism financial abusive bullying of the twins and I for one back those resisting.

You can't buy democracy.
The relevance to who owns Sark News, is that if it is the Barley Brothers, then it is in danger of being biased. Just like the Barcley Brothers dispicable behaviour over their financial interests in the island - which now show them for their true colours - just because they did not get the outcome of the elections they wanted - they pulled the plug on the business' - talk about blackmail. Obviously it looks clear of the brothers intentions from the start - if the brothers do not get their way then sark will know the concequences. The barcley's camp is quoted as saying of the sark people " They reap what they sow" then how true this is of the Barcley Brothers themselves - "they reap what they sow". If they think that they can use their finance to influence their will over Sark then they have been shown otherwise - You can't buy democracy. Now they are 'throwing their toys out of the pram' by targeting the people whom they thought they had control over. as a genuine Channel Islander, I wish the good people of Sark good luck, and hope they don't succumb to the bullying tactics of their wealthy neighbours. Long live Sark'

Re: Sark publication reveals Barclays’ building spend
The Mugabe Twins have now shown their true colours.
With their Littlewoods empire close to going tits-up, the jobs on Brecqhou cannot be safe either.

Re: Sark publication reveals Barclays’ building spend
Its interesting that the Barclays investment apparently only began 16 months ago. Would that be about the time they began putting pressure on about forcing an election in Sark.
If so , is this further evidence that they thought they could 'buy' Sark?

Re: Sark publication reveals Barclays’ building spend
They tried to buy more of Sark - but got turned down. Imagine if they'd of managed to buy 3/4's of Sark. It would have resulted in hell for the remaining quarter of locals.
