Knife law dropped by government

Knife law dropped by government _45264698_-14 Some politicians feared the law could penalise legitimate knife users

Plans which would have made it illegal to carry knives and other sharp objects in public have been dropped in Jersey.
Politicians felt the Draft Firearms Law section on knives went too far.
Anyone carrying folding pocket knives with blades or cutting edges more than 3in (8cm) without a valid reason would have been guilty of an offence.
States members said boat owners and other legitimate knife users could fall foul of the law and asked the Home Affairs minister to remove the section.
School ban
St Brelade constable Mike Jackson had argued police officers needed the right powers to deal with rising knife crime, but Peter Hanning, the constable for St Saviour said locked blades with serrated edges were safer.
"Like it or not it is better if that type of knife locks and is serrated, because it doesn't cut your fingers if you've got to use it in an emergency situation," Mr Hanning said.
"There are reasons for having locked knives and they are not necessarily for stabbing people."
It means a proposed ban on knives and other weapons in schools has also been dropped. (from BBC News)

Are they mad? It will be too late when someone gets killed...

I agree DG, it's only when someone gets killed then they of little wisdom will fully understand the silly backtracking they have done. They could have included exemptions in the draft and still voted it in.
