Home Affairs Minister: Ian Le Marquand
Former Magistrate Ian Le Marquand is the new Home Affairs Minister, having sucessfully fought off a challenge by Senator Stuart Syvret.
He won the election in the States by 34 votes to 18.
Senator Le Marquand topped the poll in the recent Senatorial election, at his first entry into politics. During the campaign, he made it known that he would like to take on the post held in the last few weeks by former Deputy Andrew Lewis, who has retired from the States.
His election as Home Affairs Minister followed that of Senators Philip Ozouf as Treasury Minister; Alan Maclean as Economic Development Minister; Freddie Cohen as Environment Minister and Jim Perchard as Health Minister.
All except Senator Perchard were the first choice of Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, who had proposed Senator Routier for Health. He later proposed Senator Routier as Education Minister instead of Deputy James Reed.
The House are sitting today to elect Ministers and chairmen of committees and scrutiny panels.
Senator Le Sueur’s other candidates are Social Security: Ian Gorst. Education: Paul Routier. Transport and Technical Services: Mike Jackson. Housing: Terry Le Main. (from thisisjersey)
