Guernsey receives letter from Gordon Brown.
Gordon Brown has backed up his threat to follow through on the G20's
decision to clamp down on tax havens by writing to Guernsey's Chief
Minister. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Lyndon Trott, The
Prime Minister reaffirms the need for greater transparency even though
Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man all appear on the OECD white list.
In the letter Mr Brown praises the work already undertaken by the
crown dependencies but reiterates the need for even greater
transparency in the future. The Prime Minister has also written
strongly worded letters to the grey listed dependencies insisting they
meet international standards in the future.
Lat week, after the G20 summit, Deputy Trott received a letter from
Chancellor Alastair Darling welcoming the continued efforts Guernsey
had made in the area of tax transparency. However, the Prime Minister
letter has also been well received by GIBA representative Mike De Haff.
"This should be good news for those already using Guernsey, as well as
those who are considering basing their business here. No doubt the
future will see further changes as there is a clear message that this
initiative must continue but equally clear is Number 10's commitment to
follow up G20 on jurisdictions that don't meet the standards set out."
Look's like he is going to keep an eye on us !
