Transport Minister stalls bid for 8.3% taxi fare hike
TAXI drivers have been refused permission to put up prices.
Transport Minister Mike Jackson has refused an application by the Jersey Taxi Drivers Association for a price hike of up to 8.3%.
He told the taxi drivers that he could not justify a price increase in the current economic climate.
‘My view was that we have got a private sector falling apart and struggling to stay afloat and the world in financial crisis and we are desperate to get tourists and get people over here,’ said Mr Jackson.
‘The general view is that taxis are quite expensive and we feel that we want to improve the service to the public.’
