British travellers face the prospect of their holidays being disrupted after immigration officers at airports and ports voted to strike in a dispute over working conditions.

The 24-hour walk-out is due to take place next Wednesday after the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS), which represent 1,200 immigration officers, failed to reach an agreement the UK Border Agency over a dispute about working conditions.
The walkout threatens to cause long delays at airports for passengers arriving back from their holidays. The officers are angry about the way customs and immigration controls are being merged into one UK Border Agency. Unions officials say officers will be forced to adopt shift patterns and duties that they did not sign up for.

The union voted 78 per cent in favour of a strike will make a final decision next Tuesday about whether to go ahead with the strike.
The Immigration Service Union (ISU) is poised to ballot its 4,000 immigration officer members on industrial action next week.
Holidaymakers also face the prospect of a strike by British Airways baggage handlers and check-in staff this summer after they voted to reject a series of cuts designed to reduce costs at the struggling airline.(from telegraph)
